We are delighted to announce that the BBC has acquired Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra. Produced by In Films, Firestarter was commissioned by ABC Television and premiered in Australian cinemas in early 2021, released by Icon Film Distribution.
The film was directed by Wayne Blair and Nel Minchin and tells the story of how Aboriginal brothers Stephen, David and Russell Page launched Bangarra Dance company 230 years ago. Featuring incredible archive footage, it also explores the loss and reclaiming of culture, the burden of intergenerational trauma and the power of art as a catalyst for social change and healing. The deal comes after broadcasters including Sky NZ, SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland and SRF in Switzerland have also bought the film. Read the C21 article here
