The Queen & Zak Grieve, a groundbreaking documentary series that The Australian newspaper says will be one of the biggest stories of the year.

Today the newspaper announces it has commissioned a six-part documentary investigation by national crime reporter Dan Box, part of the team that won two Walkley awards for its investigation of the murders of three Aboriginal children who disappeared over five months in 1990-91.

The six 10-minute films that make up The Queen & Zak Grieve tell the story of Grieve, a young indigenous man convicted of murder and facing a life in prison under Northern Territory’s mandatory sentencing laws. The judge in the case described the sentencing as “an injustice”.

Screen Australia provided undisclosed investment funding to In Films to produce The Queen & Zak Grieve and the series was commissioned by The Australian.
